Sri Lanka, Nov. 2 -- School transport operators will not increase fares despite the recent rise in diesel prices, the All-Island School Children Transportation Association has assured parents.

Association President Malshree de Silva said the increase in fuel costs had made it challenging for operators to continue their services but stressed that they would not pass the additional burden on to parents at this stage.

He said the association hoped the Government would consider reducing diesel prices, even marginally, to ease the pressure on school transport providers.

Any reduction in fuel prices would be reflected in lower transport costs for parents, he added.
