New electric train project for Colombo suburbs to begin next year
Sri Lanka, Aug. 23 -- Work on a new electric train project covering Colombo and its suburbs is scheduled to begin next year, with initial planning already completed, Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Ruwan Senarath said.
Speaking at a public rally in Hambantota, the Deputy Minister said the proposed electric train service would begin from Maradana and is aimed at providing commuters with a more efficient and modern public transport system.
Under the proposed system, passengers travelling from Beliatta on the Ruhunu Kumari train would be able to disembark at Panadura and continue their journey towards Colombo using the new electric train network.
