Sri Lanka, March 6 -- Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa has welcomed the decision by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to allow the Iranian vessel IRIS Bushier to enter Sri Lankan waters and dock at Trincomalee Port while bringing its 208 crew members to Colombo on humanitarian grounds.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Rajapaksa said the move reflects the importance of Sri Lanka maintaining a neutral stance amid the ongoing regional conflict.
He said that it is essential for Sri Lanka to uphold its obligations under international law while continuing to extend humanitarian assistance whenever necessary.
