Sri Lanka, Oct. 6 -- Energy Minister Anura Karunathilake today assured Parliament that fuel queues across the country are expected to ease by Wednesday or Thursday.

The Minister said fuel queues had increased today due to the suspension of fuel distribution on Sunday.

He noted that queues had been reported in several areas, with some private fuel companies limiting their supplies, citing losses incurred from fuel sales.

Minister Karunathilake said the Energy Ministry had instructed private fuel companies to maintain adequate fuel supplies and ensure that no shortages occur.

He said the government has no authority to order private companies on fuel supplies as per the agreements entered into with the companies.
