Major reservoirs at 33.6% storage amid dry conditions
Sri Lanka, Sept. 14 -- The combined storage level of Sri Lanka's 74 major reservoirs stood at 33.6% of their total capacity as of September 13, the Irrigation Department's Water Management Branch said.
The 74 reservoirs have a combined gross capacity of 3,114,407 acre-feet, with the present storage recorded at 33.6%.
Among the 13 irrigation ranges, Kurunegala recorded the highest storage level at 71.7%, followed by Galle at 63.2%, Kandy at 60.5% and Puttalam at 60.2%.
Monaragala reservoirs were at 55.1% of capacity, while Anuradhapura stood at 43.6%, Hambantota at 36.7% and Polonnaruwa at 35.7%.
Lower storage levels were recorded in Ampara (21.5%), Batticaloa (24.6%), Trincomalee (25.8%) and Mannar (27.7%).
