Sri Lanka, Aug. 12 -- Malwatta Chapter Mahanayake Thera Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera said President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had yet to respond to a letter sent by the Mahanayake Theras concerning the proposed extension of the retirement age of judges.

Speaking during a meeting with representatives of a human rights organisation in Kandy, the Mahanayake Thera said the Maha Sangha had, since ancient times, provided rulers with advice on matters of national importance, both verbally and in writing.

He said that, in previous instances, the authorities had at least acknowledged receipt of letters sent by the Mahanayake Theras.

"On this matter, however, we have not received a reply so far. We have not even been informed ...
