Sri Lanka, April 20 -- A low-floor priority bus service for persons with disabilities will commence tomorrow (21) from the Makumbura Multimodal Center (MMC), the Transport, Highways and Urban Development Ministry said.

The project has been launched in line with the government's vision of ensuring equal opportunities and protecting human dignity for all, and is also part of the 'Clean Sri Lanka' programme. A total of Rs. 430 million has been allocated for the initiative.

Speaking to the media, Sri Lanka Metro Transit Ltd. Chief Operating Officer Chanuka Jayanga said that under the first phase, 10 modern, air-conditioned low-floor buses will be deployed. These buses are specially designed to provide easy access for wheelchair users.
