Sri Lanka, Feb. 25 -- Liquor shop owners across several areas in the upcountry report a significant increase in sales on Aswesuma payment day compared to previous days.

Shop owners said this trend occurs in both rural and urban areas. They said that many Aswesuma recipients spend their payments on liquor without concern for family responsibilities.

However, the owners added that they cannot complain, as the Aswesuma recipients are their customers, and the source of their income is immaterial to business.
