Sri Lanka, March 13 -- In a major boost for the country's water security, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board has discovered what is believed to be the largest groundwater source in Sri Lanka during a tube well excavation in Pitabeddara.
Geologist Indrajith Gamage, in charge of the Southern Province, confirmed that the source has a continuous flow of 10,000 litres per minute, surpassing the previous record of 7,000 litres per minute found in the Madhu area.
Officials said the tube well was drilled using detailed geological studies, identifying groundwater-rich zones through fractures in underground rock strata with specialized technical equipment.
