Sri Lanka, Aug. 6 -- Heavy rainfall in Sri Lanka's central hills has triggered a landslide, blocking the Nallathanniya-Sri Pada road at the Ehela Kanuwa area.

Hatton Senior Superintendent of Police Pradeep Weerasekara said a section of the slope near Ehela Kanuwa collapsed onto the road due to the prevailing rainy weather, obstructing traffic.

He said a team of officials has been deployed to clear the debris and restore access to the road as quickly as possible.

Authorities have advised motorists and pilgrims travelling to Sri Pada via the Nallathanniya route to exercise caution until the road is fully cleared.
