It's time to fix the street lights
Sri Lanka, Aug. 14 -- Street lights don't exist in many rural parts of the country. This concerns the safety of people who travel along these roads, especially after dark. In areas such as Medawachchiya, people are afraid to travel at night as they fear elephants roaming the area. This is the same in many other places frequented by wildlife. The safety of elderly persons, children and even pregnant women are at stake as a result of such poor infrastructure. Successive governments have ignored putting up street lights in by roads and these matters have often been overlooked.
