Srilanka, July 12 -- The Irrigation Department has urged the public, including farmers, to use water sparingly in view of a possible El Nino situation in the future.

Director of Water Management H. M. P. S. D. Herath said that 80 reservoirs currently hold around 48% of their total capacity, adding that the available water is expected to be sufficient.

He highlighted the importance of conserving water resources to ensure availability during potential dry conditions.
