Sri Lanka, March 25 -- The Meegaswewa Police have initiated an investigation following the discovery of an infant's body in a private land in Palliyagodella, Meegaswewa.

Acting on a tip-off received by the Meegaswewa Police Station, officers arrived at the scene to find the remains of a female infant. Preliminary investigations revealed that the child had been deceased for approximately two days prior to the discovery.

Police said that a Magistrate's inquiry has been conducted at the site. Following the inquiry, the body is scheduled to undergo a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
