Sri Lanka, Aug. 25 -- Two Indian nationals were arrested by officers of the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) in the early hours of today (25) for allegedly attempting to illegally bring a consignment of Chinese-manufactured cigarettes worth approximately Rs. 834,000 into Sri Lanka and remove them from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

The suspects are a 33-year-old man employed in the construction sector in India and a 38-year-old woman working as a schoolteacher in India.

Police said the two had purchased the cigarettes in China before travelling to Singapore and subsequently arriving at the BIA at around 12.25 a.m. today on Singapore Airlines flight SQ-468.
