IMF urges Sri Lanka to stay the course on economic reforms
Sri Lanka, Sept. 23 -- An International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff team has concluded a visit to Sri Lanka, with discussions focusing on recent economic developments, progress under the IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme and policy recommendations under the 2026 Article IV Consultation.
The IMF team, led by Evan Papageorgiou, was in Sri Lanka from September 10 to 23, 2026. At the conclusion of the mission, the IMF said Sri Lanka's economy had remained resilient despite successive shocks, with economic activity expanding by 4.2% in the second quarter of 2026.
