Sri Lanka, Oct. 15 -- The Illegal Assets Investigation Division has frozen cash and property worth over Rs. 85 million in Jaffna over suspicions that the assets were acquired through drug trafficking.

According to the Police, the assets include Rs. 15 million in cash and a two-storey house valued at over Rs. 70 million in Madagal, Jaffna.

The investigation stems from an incident on August 31, 2023, when officers of the Jaffna Special Task Force (STF) camp arrested five suspects and seized a lorry in connection with the possession of Rs. 15 million. The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Kopay Police.
