Sri Lanka, Sept. 16 -- The Government is taking steps to amend the law to once again allow suspects arrested with less than 100 grams of drugs (gross) to seek bail from the High Court, Minister of Justice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara said yesterday.

The Minister said the proposed amendment, which is to be submitted to Parliament for approval, was being considered in response to delays in obtaining forensic reports, which have contributed to suspects being held in remand custody for extended periods.

Speaking at an event at the Government Analyst's Department in Battaramulla, Minister Nanayakkara said delays in issuing forensic reports had become a serious problem, particularly in drug-related cases.
