Sri Lanka, Aug. 26 -- Heavy traffic congestion has been reported at several entrances and exits of Sri Lanka's expressway network as motorists travel during the long weekend holiday that began today.

The Road Development Authority (RDA) said severe congestion was reported at the Mirigama entrance of the Central Expressway, while traffic was also heavily backed up at the Yaggapitiya interchange exit.

Heavy traffic has also been reported at the Mattala Interchange exit on the Southern Expressway and the Kadawatha Interchange exit on the Outer Circular Expressway.

The RDA said the congestion at several expressway entrances and exits was caused by the increased volume of vehicles travelling during the long weekend holiday.
