Sri Lanka, Sept. 14 -- A sudden flood situation has been reported in a Divisional Secretariat Division in the Kandy District due to the heavy rainfall, Director of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Pradeep Kodippili said.

He said 25 persons from eight families have been affected by the flooding and have been temporarily relocated to the Bawwagama Vidyalaya in Nawalapitiya.

Relief measures are currently being provided to the displaced families, he added.

The highest rainfall recorded over the past few hours was reported from Walallawita in the Kalutara District, where 119 mm of rain was recorded.

Rainfall ranging between 50 mm to 119 mm was also reported from Hanwella, Elpitiya, Neluwa, Dunhinna, Wathurawila and Naula, Kodippili sa...
