SriLanka, Aug. 22 -- The Meteorology Department has issued a heat index alert for the Eastern and North Central provinces and several districts in the North and Uva provinces, warning that the temperature felt by the human body could reach the 'Caution' level in some areas during the daytime.

The warning covers Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Monaragala districts, in addition to the Eastern and North Central provinces.

The Department said the heat index is calculated using relative humidity and maximum temperature and indicates the level of heat felt by the human body. It is not a forecast of the maximum temperature.
