Sri Lanka, Sept. 9 -- Green-coloured vehicle number plates are legally valid and should be recognised as such, Commissioner General of the Department of Motor Traffic Vice Marshal (Retd.) Thushara Idunil Fernando said.

Speaking to the media, Fernando said green-coloured number plates are currently being issued for all electric vehicles (EVs) under the "Green Sri Lanka" concept.

He said the Transport Ministry had taken the decision considering that electric vehicles produce zero emissions.

Accordingly, all electric vehicles, including cars, three-wheelers and electric motorcycles, will be issued green-coloured vehicle registration number plates.
