Sri Lanka, Sept. 16 -- Amid renewed calls to reintroduce the death penalty for organised crime in the wake of continuing shooting incidents, Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday that the Government had not taken any decision on the matter.

He said several proposals had been submitted calling for the reintroduction of the death penalty, while a proposal had also been made to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake during a recent meeting on the issue.

The Minister said underworld activities had been brought under control to some extent, noting that clashes between rival gangs, which had been reported earlier, had now declined.
