Sri Lanka, Sept. 3 -- Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa reiterated that the Government would hold a referendum if the Supreme Court rules that the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution requires approval through a referendum.

Speaking to reporters, Jayatissa said the Government had not introduced any changes to the proposed amendment that would require approval by referendum.

"We believe that a referendum will not be necessary. However, if the Supreme Court rules that one is required, we will hold it. We will know the outcome within three weeks," he said.
