Government ready to discuss Animal Welfare Bill with all stakeholders: Minister
Sri Lanka, Aug. 6 -- The government is ready to discuss the proposed new Animal Welfare Bill with all stakeholders, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock K. D. Lalkantha told Parliament today.
He said dates for several discussions have already been fixed.
"What we intend to do is amend the Animal Welfare Act, which was introduced in 1907, to meet today's needs," the Minister said.
He added that it is important to preserve traditions such as peraharas and that the government will take these matters into consideration.
