Sri Lanka, July 8 -- The Minister of Justice and National Integration, Harshana Nanayakkara, has issued an Extraordinary Gazette notification ordering the establishment of a new prison in the Mahamodara area of Galle.

The relevant gazette notification was issued under the signature of Minister Nanayakkara, exercising the powers vested in him under Section 2 of the Prisons Ordinance.

It was reported that the new prison is scheduled to be operated on a temporary basis within a section of the closed Mahamodara Hospital.
