Sri Lanka, Oct. 28 -- Former Minister Udaya Gammanpila has filed a writ petition in the Court of Appeal challenging the legality of an order issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate to suspend a Sathyagraha campaign held at Viharamahadevi Park, demanding the release of incarcerated Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Ven. Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera.

In his application, Gammanpila has named the Officer-in-Charge of the Cinnamon Gardens Police Station, the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General and the Colombo Chief Magistrate as respondents.

The petitioner is seeking a writ of certiorari to quash the order issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate suspending the Sathyagraha campaign.
