Sri Lanka, March 19 -- As Opposition MP B. Ariyawansa revealed that local banana growers are affected by the fuel crisis as the Sinhala New Year draws near, Deputy Minister Namal Karunaratne assured that the government will provide redress to the growers.

"Buyers who usually come in lorries to purchase the produce have stopped coming towards the growers because of the fuel crisis. This issue has come up during a crucial period as the Sinhala Hindu New Year draws near. The government should provide some redress to the growers," MP Ariyawansa said.

Deputy Minister Karunaratne, who responded, assured redress as soon as possible.

"We want the banana growers to be patient as we will help them as soon as possible," he said.
