Sri Lanka, July 6 -- A fresh tense situation erupted at the Negombo Prison today, with several prison officers reportedly injured as authorities moved to bring the unrest under control.

The latest unrest follows a violent clash between two groups of inmates at the prison yesterday.

The confrontation, which broke out between remand and convicted prisoners, left two inmates dead and 38 others injured. Authorities are yet to disclose the cause of today's renewed violence.
