Four Monaragala Crime Unit cops arrested over Rs. 500,000 ganja bribe
Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- A group of four police officers of the Monaragala Crime Investigation Unit were arrested last morning by Thanamalwila Police on suspicion of accepting a bribe of Rs.500,000 to dodge legal action against the owner of a ganja chena in Nikawewa area. Ganja or cannabis cultivation is unlawful in Sri Lanka
The suspects, two sergeants, and two constables are attached to the Monaragala Police Division Crime Investigation Unit functioning under the Monaragala SSP.
They are alleged to have carried out a raid on a ganja chena on intelligence received by HQI Thanamalwila Police Thilina De Silva and released the suspect and the stock of ganja after obtaining a bribe of Rs.500,000.
