Sri Lanka, April 16 -- Former Member of Parliament Chandana Kathriarachchi has been arrested by the Colombo Crime Division after firearms-related items were discovered at his residence in Piliyandala, police said.

Police Spokesperson ASP F. U. Wootler said that the arrest was made following information received about the presence of firearms at the location. Acting on the tip-off, officers carried out a search at the residence.

During the operation, police recovered two T56 magazines, 221 rounds of T56 ammunition, along with an additional stock of ammunition.

Kathriarachchi is scheduled to be produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate's Court.
