Sri Lanka, Sept. 25 -- Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today ordered that the former Private Secretary to former Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, who was arrested over an alleged corruption offence, be further remanded till October 9.

Officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) told court that the suspect had allegedly facilitated arrangements for only three selected companies to export phosphate, thus deviating from the prescribed procedure.

Investigators further informed court that the suspect had allegedly requested and received a bribe of Rs. 8.1 million by assisting and facilitating the obtaining of licences required by the relevant companies to import phosphate, and ...
