Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- The Department of Irrigation has issued a flood warning for low-lying areas surrounding the Mahaweli River in the Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat area following heavy rainfall in the river's upper catchment over the past several hours.

Residents living in vulnerable areas have been urged to remain highly vigilant and take precautionary measures to protect lives and property. Motorists travelling along roads in the affected areas have also been advised to exercise extreme caution.

Authorities have called on communities living close to the Mahaweli River to closely monitor water levels and remain prepared to take immediate action should flooding occur.
