Sri Lanka, Aug. 3 -- People living in Gelioya town and in buildings within the University of Peradeniya located near the Mahaweli River have been urged to remain vigilant due to the risk of sudden flooding.

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said water levels in the Mahaweli River and nearby waterways have risen significantly following heavy rainfall.

Residents in low-lying areas along the riverbanks have been advised to exercise caution, closely monitor official updates and take necessary precautions, as the risk of sudden flooding remains high.
