Firm fined over rice, expired glucose
SriLanka, Sept. 13 -- A Colombo based company has been fined Rs. 200,000 after pleading guilty to charges involving the alleged alteration of original prices on basmati rice packets and the storage of expired liquid glucose stocks, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said.
The case was filed by CAA investigating officers against company located on Sirimavo Bandaranaike Mawatha, Colombo 14, before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court No. 5.
According to the CAA, its officers inspected the premises on June 24, 2026, and found 1 kg packets of basmati rice and a 20 kg pack of liquid glucose allegedly being prepared for sale after the original prices had been removed and replaced with higher prices.
