Sri Lanka, Sept. 25 -- The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) today arrested the former Chairman of Lanka Mineral Sands Limited, Udeni Jayaratne Dassanayake, over an alleged corruption case involving the recruitment of casual workers.

CIABOC investigating officers arrested the former chairman at around 9.25 a.m. today.

According to the allegations, the suspect had bypassed established recruitment procedures and exceeded the approved staff cadre when recruiting casual employees to Lanka Mineral Sands Limited during 2023 and 2024.

The alleged irregular recruitments resulted in wage payments amounting to Rs. 34,438,650.42 being made to the casual workers. CIABOC alleges that the actions resulted in an...
