Sri Lanka, Oct. 9 -- The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has warned the public against buying or selling vehicles using 'open papers', saying the requirement to complete ownership transfers within 14 days will be strictly enforced from December 1.

Commissioner General of Motor Traffic Thushara Fernando said vehicle owners should not hand over 'open papers' when selling their vehicles, as this could expose sellers to potential legal and other complications.

He said ownership transfers must be completed by submitting the required documents to the relevant office within 14 days.
