Sri Lanka, Sept. 8 -- The Cabinet has approved a proposal to establish dedicated Digital Transformation Units in government institutions to coordinate and manage digital transformation initiatives.

The National Digital Economy Plan 2025-2030, approved at the Cabinet meeting held on October 21, 2025, identified the need for a strong and standardized institutional mechanism within government institutions to oversee sectoral digital transformation and ensure compliance with the National Digital Commons Initiative.

Accordingly, it was proposed to establish a Digital Transformation Unit in each government institution to ensure the effective management and coordination of digital transformation activities.
