Dengue risk reaches critical level as 35,300 cases reported
Sri Lanka, June 6 -- The risk of dengue transmission across Sri Lanka has reached a very high level, health authorities have warned, following a sharp rise in infections recorded at the beginning of this year.
According to the National Dengue Control Unit, around 35,300 patients have already been identified this year, indicating a significant surge across multiple districts. Nearly half of the cases have been reported from high-risk areas, including the Western Province, Gampaha, Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, and Kandy.
Officials say the increasing trend highlights an urgent need for intensified community-level action to prevent further spread.
