Dengue cases climb to 78,125
Sri Lanka, July 22 -- The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka so far this year has increased to 78,125, according to the latest data released by the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The NDCU said 1,097 new dengue cases were reported yesterday (21), while 162 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions across the country continue to be identified as high-risk areas for dengue transmission.
Furthermore, a total of 8,590 cases were reported in May, followed by 21,535 cases in June.
During the first 21 days of July alone, 22,749 dengue cases have already been recorded.
The NDCU also confirmed that 56 dengue-related deaths have been reported so far this year, with the case fatality rate standing at 0.07%.
