Sri Lanka, June 4 -- The death toll from the fire that broke out at an elders' home in Anguruwatota, Horana, on Tuesday evening has risen to 12, police said.

Authorities said three residents are still unaccounted for, while seven injured individuals have been admitted to Horana District Hospital for treatment.

According to officials, 72 residents were inside the facility when the blaze erupted.

Rescue teams managed to evacuate 44 occupants safely without injuries, officials added.
