Sri Lanka, Sept. 23 -- The Court of Appeal yesterday reduced the seven-year prison sentences imposed on a husband and wife convicted of trafficking and procuring a Russian national for prostitution in Sri Lanka to four years, taking into special consideration the circumstances of their children.

A Court of Appeal two-judge-bench comprising Justices P. Kumararatnam and Pradeep Hettiarachchi delivered this judgment in an appeal filed by two accused, husband and wife against their convictions by the Colombo High Court.

The accused who are husband and wife, had been convicted on charges relating to the trafficking and procuration of a Russian national between 2019 and 2020.
