SriLanka, May 3 -- Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said that Sri Lanka, despite being a country rich in resources, had been severely undermined due to corruption by past rulers.

Addressing a May Day rally in Ratnapura on May 1, the Prime Minister said that the misuse of national resources over the years had led to the country's economic decline. She said that the current administration has taken steps to reverse the situation within a short period.

She further highlighted that if the country could be steered towards becoming debt-free within one and a half years, it demonstrates the potential for achieving significant economic progress in the coming years.
