Sri Lanka, Sept. 16 -- The recent news of 3 children escaping from a children's home in Monaragala shocked all of us. Sadly, we see many such incidents happening around Sri Lanka regarding children mistreated at caring centres.

My wife and I, along with many others, often take meals/dana to children's homes and elder homes. But we have noticed one troubling pattern. We are NOT allowed to speak to the children or mingle with elders.

The supervisors and caretakers keep a clear distance between donors and children. As soon as the food is served, the children are taken away. We are not even given 5 minutes to ask, "How are you?"

Why is this? Are they afraid that if we talk to the children, they will tell us about mistreatment, lack of food, ...
