CERT warns public of fake traffic fine scam
Sri Lanka, May 28 -- The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) has issued a special public alert warning motorists about an ongoing cyber scam involving fraudulent SMS and WhatsApp messages claiming that traffic violations had been detected through CCTV camera systems installed on roads.
According to SLCERT, the messages are designed to appear as official notifications from the Sri Lanka Police and are aimed at deceiving recipients into revealing personal and financial information.
The agency said scammers are circulating the fake messages using fraudulent phone numbers and malicious web links while impersonating official police communications.
