Sri Lanka, Sept. 9 -- Cancer patients awaiting radiation therapy are facing further delays as the CT simulation service required for treatment planning at a major cancer hospital has reportedly not been functioning properly since April 28, leaving more than 1,000 patients on the waiting list.

CT simulation is a specialised planning procedure that uses a computed tomography (CT) scanner to map the precise area to be treated before radiation therapy begins. The procedure is essential for patients undergoing treatment with a linear accelerator, as it enables doctors to accurately plan the radiation fields while minimising exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
