Cabinet nod for 'Surakimu Lanka' National Energy Security Mission
Sri Lanka, May 26 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the implementation of the "Surakimu Lanka" National Energy Security Mission aimed at strengthening Sri Lanka's energy security and promoting efficient electricity consumption.
The Government said Sri Lanka's energy security has been affected by several factors, including heavy dependence on fossil fuels, drought conditions, disruptions in fuel supply due to geopolitical instability, and fluctuations in global fuel prices.
Authorities noted that the increasing fuel import costs have placed additional pressure on the national economy, which has been further aggravated by irregular electricity consumption patterns among consumers.
