Sri Lanka, July 29 -- The Cabinet has approved the implementation of the procurement process for the construction of Phase I of the Ruwanpura Expressway Project, including the system interchange connecting it to the Southern Expressway at Kahathuduwa.

The Road Development Authority plans to complete the procurement process for the first section of the expressway, stretching from Kahathuduwa to Ingiriya, and award the relevant construction contracts within 2026.

Accordingly, the Cabinet approved a proposal submitted by the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development to proceed with the procurement process and select a suitable contractor.
