Sri Lanka, April 7 -- The Cabinet has approved the appointment of a new Commissioner General of Registration of Persons to fill the existing vacancy in the Department of Registration of Persons.

At present, an Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs has been performing the duties of the post on an acting basis. However, considering the department's day-to-day operations and the need to expedite the issuance of the Sri Lanka Identity Digital Identity Card, authorities determined that a permanent appointment was necessary.
