Cabinet approves committee to restore Sri Lankan heritage abroad
Sri Lanka, Sept. 29 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the appointment of a committee to facilitate the restoration of Sri Lankan cultural artefacts currently in foreign possession, particularly those removed from the country during the colonial period.
The committee, titled the 'Committee for the Restoration of Sri Lankan Cultural Heritage in Foreign Possessions,' will be chaired by the Additional Secretary (Cultural Promotion and Foreign Affairs) of the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs.
The committee will be responsible for maintaining direct communication with relevant foreign authorities on the return of Sri Lankan cultural artefacts and providing advice to the Government on the restoration process.
