CAA raids Kollupitiya supermarket over missing food labels
SriLanka, June 14 -- The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has carried out a special inspection raid on a leading supermarket in the Kollupitiya area over the sale of imported packaged food products allegedly lacking mandatory labeling information.
During the operation, officials found a large stock of food items displayed for sale without essential consumer details such as importer information, Maximum Retail Price (MRP), batch numbers, manufacturing and expiry dates, and ingredient lists.
Investigators further said that many of the products carried labels exclusively in foreign languages, without any clear or accessible information for local consumers as required under consumer protection regulations.
